D3 is a fuction on automatics. When your in D3, your car will only go to 3rd gear, and wont go any further.D is "drive" and it just shifts regularly, around 2500RPM, unless you floor it. So D is more like the normal gear.So it kind of acts like a manual transmission, except without the clutch.
