The 2001 and 2002 Civic Si (there might be a year before that or after included in that generation but im not a big civic guy so im not sure) have the shifter in the dash. And actually the 2006-2007 civic si have the shifter more in between the seats than in the dash.heres a pic from a 2002 Civic Si...

http://www.procivic.com/images/artic...erior.jpgCivic Ex is the top trim level that comes in the civic, so most come with power locks, doors, sunroof, allow wheels, etc. The Si is the more sporty model of civics. the civics have a smooth ride but the suspension is pretty tight for cornering and such. They are great cars and with routine maintainence can last more than 200,000 miles. It is up to you if you would rather have a sporty car or a "mommy car." I think a 2001 or so civic ex or si would be an excellent car for college but it is you decision and you should definately test drive any car before you buy to make sure you are comfortable with it.
