Peter,
Maybe you've got some soft drink gumming up one of the buttons. If you
can't hear them all click, then they can't be used for code entry. If
you don't get the code entered within three tries, just leave the
ignition on for one hour... then try again.
If I had a sticky button, (and didn't have the time/skill to tear the
front end of the radio apart), I'd use a Q-tip dunked in HOT water to
moisten / dissolve the Pepsi, then try to enter the CODE. Don't spray
anything into the front of the buttons, especailly not something caustic
like Fantastic. :-(
