I wouldn't worry too much about rolling a new CR-V. The new ones have stability control, which is huge in helping to avoid rollovers and other accidents (to the point where it may be mandatory for all cars, and Ford will be offering it in every vehicle in a few years). Of course you can still roll the things over, but it's a lot harder, and they all have side curtain airbags, which makes them safer in rollovers and side collisions. Go ask for a test drive; Honda dealers usually aren't too scary, and it'll give you the best idea of how safe you think the car is, and how much you like the way it drives.
