I own a 2000 Honda Accord V6. It is among several models & years that share the same automatic transmission problem as with your Odyssey. If you are the original owner, you should have received several notifications by mail (& even via e-mail) of the various issues related to this transmission problem. In fact, Honda just settled a class-action lawsuit, extending the initial warrenty to 105,000 miles (there are caveats that might to some vehicles/owners). BTW, Honda claims that the problem applies to about 5% of total owners of Honda/Acura models, primarily equipped with auto trannies mated to V6 engines. You should find a lot of useful information by simply doing a GOOGLE domain search under 'Honda transmission recall' or problems. Also, I recall the Honda service/recall bulletin stated that hard shifts, failure to shift into certain gears,& slippage are among the symptoms some experienced. What research I've done seems to indicate that in some vehicles, there were defects in the assembly of the certain components of the transmission. Another explanation is that there is a defect in the design & assembly of the 2nd gear clutch pack. The installation of a secondary transmission cooler would not hurt...these accessories will cost ~ $500 installed, but work to extend the life of your transmission by lower operating temperature...temperature is an enemy of your transmission.
