I have a friend who's "service engine soon" light stays on. She had the shop check it for her. They said, there is some kind of thing that needs to be replaced for the exhaust emission. Not replacing it will lower her gas miliage by a little bit, and the "service engine soon" light won't go out till she replaces that part. Around $70.00 I think.
