It's technically possible, but what you have to ask yourself is why do it! A non-standard engine change will take considerable time, planning and effort and open up a whole can of worms once complete. Just think about the following;- Modifiying/adapting the engine bay to get it in there. - Wiring- Updating brakes, suspension etc to cope- Weight distribution and handling once done- Insuring your new creation!- etc, etcSurely the better option would be to sell your non-vetec and look for a vtec'ed alternative. What about an import vti? The 1.6 version puts out over 160bhp in standard tune with the JDM edition giving 173!!Alternatively, the non-vetec D-series is a fairly tunable lump - even on a tight budget. A combination of induction kit, 4-2-1 manifold, sports cat, pressure boost valve, and hot cam will leave you with a lightweight engine that wants to rev and rev and puts out well above the 124bhp standard for the 1.6. This will not set you back more than $500 and all (except possibly the cam) are simple bolt on mods that can be fitted with a little effort.Leaving the stock back-box on will also give healthy induction noise above 4500rpm.But in the end, it's up to you. Decide what you want to achieve and take it from there. Happy tuning!
