When that happened to me, I forgot to fasten the fuel cap after I filled up with gas. This caused the light to go on. I read my manual and it even states it right in the manual that not replacing the fuel cap or closing it tightly will cause the light to go on. It tells you how to turn it off as well. I don't have my owner's manual handy otherwise I could help you more. The light will shut off manually (under your control) ONLY if the gas cap was the problem. If you try turning it off and it doesn't work, than you will know that the cap was NOT the problem. If that's the case, I would then suggest taking it in to be diagnosed and serviced. Hope this helped a little. Good luck.
