I agree with the above poster, sounds like the "Throwout bearing",
normally when you have this kind of work done it is recommended that you
change the clutch, throwout bearing and pressure plate. Usually it is
not that expensive a job, but be ready for around $300. If you are not
really mechanically inclinded that is the way to go, not to mention
warranty, however, changing it yourself is also an option, and would
probably only cost you around $100 plus your blood, sweat, and tears.
