I had to replace a mass air flow sensor in my Chevy Blazer not too long ago. About $300 - but it mixes the correct amount of air with the fuel that goes into your engine. I ignored my check engine light until I pulled out in front of a semi one day and my Blazer would only go about 30 mph max. That scared me enough - I went to the Chevy dealer the next day and had it replaced.
