Same this happen to my rsx. I have a hondata ecu and my vtec is set at 4200 rpms. Nothing is seriously wrong, just fix the problem that is through the check engine light. In my case, it was a wire for the air intake temp sensor. Just remember vtec is electronically controlled so a bad sensor may cause that.
