Instant damage is usually caused by downshifts into the wrong gear by mistake(3rd to 2nd instead of 3rd to 4th) . The rev limited doesn't help. Expect bent valves or worse. Be very careful shifting at 7800 rpm. The RSX syncros will allow you shift into the wrong gear very easy.
