All engines I've worked on turn clockwise when looking at the engine from it's front. Use a long 1/2 inch drive and correct size socket,wedge breaker bar to frame or other secure place,and bump the starter; bolt breakes loose,remove bolt with fingers. WILL NOT WORK TO TIGHTEN!!!. Bolt will break off inside crankshaft before you know it! Then you're in real trouble. Use one of the other methods to tighten. When loosening bolt, be VERY careful where your fingers are. Engines eat fingers. Good luck.
