Usually, there are TWO maintenance schedules. One for normal use and one for harder use. On MY car it's 5k or 7.5K. I use the 7.5K as I drive 90% on the freeway at 60mph. Dealers will ALWAYS want you to change more often to get more $$$. Once I received a service bill at a dealer with some extra services that I didn't ask for. When I questioned it, they said "OH, we reccomend these be done" I said you should have "reccomended" it BEFORE starting work. I'm not paying for anything I did not ask for!!! (They changed the bill)
