The Civic HX gets 45 mpg highway, 40 mpg mountains. I can't tell you about
city driving because I don't do much of that. This model is no longer sold
as the hybrid has taken its place. If you can find a used one in good shape
and you care about mileage snap it up. According to the Nevada State Patrol
it is capable of 127 mph too. "Dad, it was a long straight highway and I
just lost track of the speedometer..."
The government and manufacturers' attitudes towards economy are hard to
deciper. Fuel prices keep going up and vehicle economy has made some
progress, but it isn't as much as it could be. 30s are good to see, but 40s
are attainable for most people's real needs, and you just don't see many 40
mpg cars on the lots. Unless you count the hybrids, which I don't. The
cost of the batteries and controls, and replacement cost if you keep the car
long enough, still negates the potential fuel savings.
