If boosting it causes it to start, the battery may still be perfect, but
the terminals could be loose. A battery that's totally dead will act
almost the same as one with loose connections, except you'll usually
hear a sharp 'snap' under the hood when trying to start a car with loose
connections. It may power your radio but as soon as you try to crank the
engine, the current goes too high and the connection zaps open.
