If the timing belt is way overdue (years OR mileage) it could have
jumped a tooth or two and would run poorly. If it's even out one tooth,
it will be totally gutless until warm, then only very gutless. Did you
change or at least inspect the PCV?
Save your money, I dont' think it needs high octane gas. I prefer
gasohol from time to time for the sake of keeping injectors clean.
