Before you take the rather extreme step of replacing your cat, check the
heat shields. They rust out and come loose at the bolt holes.

You can either pull them off entirely, clamp them down with a large hose
clamp (which I've done on mine), or buy new ones at the dealer for about
$20-$30 each.
