I have a 2001 Odyssey with ~50K miles. About a week ago, the fuel
gauge started failing intermittently. About 2/3 of the time, it reads
empty, or close to it.

Are there any known issues with this?

I remember reading that a few months ago Shell had a problem with gas
in the southern states causing fuel gauges to fail. While I do use
Shell gas almost exclusively, those incidents were several months ago,
and I live in the midwest (central Ohio).

I don't suppose a fuel gauge would be considered part of the drive
train or emission systems, and subject to an extended warranty ;-)
